Welcome to By Roy Steele. This website is my new online home, and I want it to be a collection of my "greatest hits," in other words a site to showcase my best writing, and the best images I've created, whether it's a photograph or a graphic design. Similar to an online portfolio I suppose. My writing is scattered across the web, and I want to have one site where anyone can find me.

straight talk in a queer world.

Biography

Roy Steele is a creative artist, blogger, queer activist, equality advocate, anti-bullying evangelist, and political meteorologist.

He crusades against the lies and misinformation that right-wing extremists and evangelical Christians use to spread anti-gay propaganda.

He led a successful boycott of American retail stores that were financing anti-gay hate groups through affiliate marketing schemes. The boycott received extensive coverage from major media organizations. Reporter Michelle Goldberg wrote about the boycott for Newsweek, in an article entitled “Christian Group’s New Gay War,” and The New York Times documented the campaign in “Retailers get heat for sales that generate anti-gay aid.”

Anti-gay former Arkansas governor and perennial Republican presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee, called Roy “an economic terrorist” because his boycott campaign resulted in over 200 major retail organizations severing ties with the Christian Values Network and the Charity Give Back Group, for funneling money to anti-gay organizations like the Family Research Council and Focus on the Family.

Roy is a northern New Jersey native, who majored in English and Political Science, at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He trained as a musical theater actor at the Guildford School of Acting - University of Surrey, in Guildford, Surrey England, and made his professional debut in London’s West End at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Barbican Theater.
